# Emergence map check — 2 October 2026

First implementation of the boundary policy in `map-boundaries-research.md`.

- Build succeeds with the existing xray transcript warnings. Map assets are vendored; ordinary builds and map navigation make no geodata requests. The explicit generator verifies every pinned file hash.
- Numerical checks passed for Equal Earth inverses, local-view inverses, equal-area density at several latitudes, antimeridian wrapping, finite region bounds/paths and excluded feature IDs. No third-party runtime was added.
- Browser checks cover 320×740, 375×812 and 1280px in both themes. Document scroll width matches viewport width. Map notes and controls use at least 15px text. A phone-to-desktop resize exposed an intrinsic-SVG sizing loop; the camera window now has its own stable height.
- Taiwan and Crimea region links open their source notes and focus the map. Hatching remains consistent at 16× zoom, with neutral ground and the country-fill mask still present. World resets projection, selection and signal scale. The full reference world includes the poles; close views use a local equal-area projection.
- Country selection opens its reporting records and prepares a close map view. Australia was checked on mobile; its shape is no longer magnified from the curved world-map edge. Keyboard pan shifts its signal position correctly. Boundary-source links are ordered before the lower caption information to avoid the support pill on short screens.
- Static HTML checks passed for 233 record appearances representing all 131 unique records: each retains its mandatory identity label and an HTTP(S) source link. `status: unverified`, the inactive/zero verified lane and historical-comparison-unavailable seam remain intact. The snapshot was rebuilt from the pipeline; its contract was not redefined.

Performance work coalesces pointer input to animation frames and moves the existing SVG surface during gestures, committing geometry on release. Close/moving views suppress glow, and signal radii decrease with zoom rather than growing over the reporting centre. This is a rendering change, not a measured claim of a particular frame rate; physical-phone touch smoothness has not been measured here.

Coverage limits remain visible: eight regional source notes checked, other groups reference-only; no live front lines, exhaustive maritime coverage or newly surveyed settlement boundaries. Both projections preserve area, but neither preserves shapes everywhere; close views improve shapes near the focus latitude, with polar limits documented in the policy.
